Taste the good life with OZGANICS

Thanks to Veron ( Quay Po Cooks) for extending the invitation of a cooking demo that was featured as "Celebrating with Organics this Christmas Season by Ozganics founder Anni Brownjohs to me. It was held in the Pantry at Jaya Grocers Empire Subang. I also brought my daughter along and now she is becomimg my blog's assisstant ^_^.
After attended this organics cooking demo, i just realized that we can also prepare a meal that using 100% of organics products, from cooking oil, herbs, spices, meat, vegetables and seasonings. Frankly i have very little knowledge of organic products, i only know organic vegetables and do buy them to cook sometime. I didn't know we can have organic spices and seasonings too to add into our cooking, so we can have completely organic meal..
I find OZGANICS products make cooking of organic foods more simplicity and convenience. We just need to add OZGANICS's range of products like sauce, dressing and marinades into few other organic ingredients, then we can have a completely organic healthy meal at home.

Anni Brownjohns prepared few organics dishes for us , and she also discussed the benefits of eating organics with us.

Chef Ryan Khang was assisting Anni in this cooking demo. The first dish was Thai Pumpkin Soup.

We found this soup was a bit less salty and told by Anni that she did not add salt into this soup. Later we learnt from Anni that salt is not an organic product. Organic products are produce that must grow from soil.. So you know we Asian people like stronger taste, later we request for soy sauce to add into this healthy soup, but of course is organic soy sauce, hahaha..
Below i share with you the Thai Pumpkin Soup recipe:-

3. Add pumpkin and stir to coat-saute until slightly browning
4. Add water, simmer for 20mins or until pumpkin is soft

Check out the label, see the logo look like a leaf, this is Australian certified organic food chain...another important point highlighted by Anni was even the product has the certified logo but the logo must carry with serial number..

I must say I hardly ever eat anything organic, except the fruits and vegetables...nice to know we can get organic sauces for our cooking too! Great post!

Hi Sonia,
Okay, I'm confused here! I'm assuming that you had a 100% organic meal. If by adding salt, it makes the meal non organic since the requirement for it to be certified organic, the produce must grow from soil. What about Feta? I'm not sure if you are familiar with Pacific Salt, Malborough Flaky Sea Salt but I do believe that that product is certified as organic. It comes with certified logo and serial number too. These days you can buy certified organic eggs and meats which come with serial numbers and they are not from soil! * scratching head*

Shereen, good questions ! I did asked the same question to Anni about Feta cheese as organic. She said the source of milk from sheep or goat is organic , so Feta cheese also certified as organic product. Same goes to eggs and meats. As for why the brands of salt also do come with certified logo and serial number, then I have to get Anni to answer you . Now I have a question to Anni,, is seafood also organic ?

Sonia, do you think Anni would have raised her eye brown if you ask for some light soy sauce for the pumpkin soup, hahaha!

Quay Po Cooks said...

Shereen, the salt was not organic. Anni does not encourage the use of salt but we got it because we asked for it. hehe.. We all not used to organic food yet lah, so we want to add soya sauce of salt and with that we turned the organic meal upside down. Malaysian ma!! LOL!

Sonia, thanks for joining us, it has been too long I last meet up with you. Miss you lah! Hey and congrats on the new camera. The quality of the photos are obvious, now I am so jealous:D Enjoy your new toy my dear.

I am very keen on organic products but haven't changed totally because some of the products are quiet expensive. But I do understand why the cost is high.

Looks like u had an eventful afternoon with lots of healthy food. Organic food is healthier but really quite expensive and limited choices. It will be hard to stick on 100% organic. However organic vege does taste sweeter and better thou. Thanks for sharing with us.

It's incredible how different are the attitudes to organic food around the world: in France where I buy 90% of my food, organic shops are everywhere (and every year new ones open) and they carry almost everything you need to cook: flour, oil, cans, meat, cheese and of course vegetables and fruits. I buy only free-range or organic meat and I have almost stopped buying non-organic vegetables or fruits (I only buy such when I cannot find organic, which happens rarely). I'm glad organic food production spreads all around the world.

aiyooo, i better get my post up haha. Good writeup Sonia, you noted down so much of what Anni said. She gave a lot of practical advice, didn't she. Nice to have finally meet you :)

Brilliant post Sonia :D

I love the way you mentioned
"So you know we Asian people like stronger taste, later we request for soy sauce to add into this healthy soup, but of course is organic soy sauce, hahaha.." ~ classic ;P

hi Sonia,

Organic shops are quite popular nowadays in Germany too. Organic food is good but all in all I think one should try to prepare the dressing or sauce from fresh organic ingredients too for a healthier diet. Preparation from whole food is the best. Too much antibiotic and hormone in meat and chemicals in processed food have slowly waken some of us who try to eat healthier in our busy working life.
